Strategies:Shade of Akama
From WIR
In this fight, we get to free Akama from the dark part of his spirit (his “shade”), which binds him to Illidan's service.
This encounter has two parts. In the first, we deal with a set of Ashtongue who are banishing Akama's shade. This part is fairly dynamic, as more Ashtongue stream in as the encounter proceeds. After all of the channelers are dealt with, Akama's shade breaks free and attacks Akama, and we have to kill the shade before it kills Akama. Akama's shade has 1,000,000 hit points, and focuses its attention on Akama, so it's just a matter of doing enough damage to take it out in the 60 or so seconds it takes the shade to kill Akama.

Trash
There are several types of trash mobs in this area. Six Ashtongue Channelers start out around the shade, banishing it. They ignore everything else to cast their banishing spell, so we don't have to worry about tanking or controlling them. Ashtongue Sorcerers run in periodically and take the place of fallen Ashtongue Channelers. They also ignore everything else to cast the banishing spell.
Ashtongue Defenders are melee mobs that have a debilitating strike ability. This attack debuffs the target to reduce the damage the target does in melee by 75%. Ashtongue Elementalists are casters that cast a rain of fire. Ashtongue Rogues are melee mobs. They have debilitating poison attacks that increase the time between the victim's melee atacks and spellcasts as well as applying a DOT. This poison needs to be cleansed ASAP. Finally, Ashtongue Spellbinders are healers, casting both a spirit mend HOT that can be purged and a chain heal.
Phase 1
See http://www.bosskillers.com/cgi-bin/bbguild/index.cgi?action=view_guide&guide_id=107&sid=uprQo8wqw5 for bosskillers.net's traditional good diagrams of the fight. The Shade of Akama starts out on a platform in a room with blocked entrances on two sides. We'll divide the raid into three groups.
- Team 1 will be the melee DPS and one warlock, preferably a warlock specced for good DOTs.
- Team 2 will have two tanks, half of the remaining DPS, and half of the healers.
- Team 3 will be the rest of the raid
We set up with Team 1 near the channelers banishing the shade, Team 2 in front of one of the entrances to the room, and Team 3 in front of the other. Team 2 and 3's tanks will be out in front of the rest of the team to grab adds as they enter. The fight begins when we talk to Akama, who is stealthed and inside the room.
Team 1's warlock will keep DOTs up on all of the channelers while the melee focus-fire the channelers down one by one.
Every 35 seconds, a pack of one Rogue, one Elementalist, and one Spiritbinder will enter through each of the doors. Ideally, a mage sheeps the Elementalist and a warlock fears the Rogue while the tank picks up the Spiritbinder. By the time the fear breaks, the Spiritbinder should be dead; at this point, the mage sheeps the Rogue and the door team kills the Elementalist. The Elementalist has a nasty Rain of Fire, so it's important to keep it under control and kill it quickly.
Also, every 15 seconds or so, an Ashtongue Defender will run in through one of the doors. The Defender will ignore everything until it reaches Akama, at which point it will attack him, but can be pulled off normally. We'll have an off-tank collecting the Defenders. The off-tank will require healing, but we will not be worrying about killing the Defenders during the fight.
Paladins cannot serve as the Defender tank, since they are bugged with regard to Holy damage. (Possibly only Consecrate, but why experiment?) Defenders are tauntable, which is the easiest way to pick them up as they arrive.
Finally, Ashtongue Sorcerers will spawn occasionally to replace Channelers. They need to be killed by Team 1 as well, but it doesn't matter what order we kill the channeling mobs in.
Phase 2
Phase 2 starts when the last channeler/sorcerer dies and the Shade of Akama breaks free. When this happens, finish off your current target if it's close to dying (10-20%). Any targets at more health than that should be polymorphed/feared so that we can ignore them. Everyone needs to pile on the Shade of Akama quickly and go flat-out max DPS. All cooldowns need to be saved for this portion of the fight so we can deliver maximum DPS. The Shade of Akama will focus on Akama, so you don't need to worry about threat, taking damage, or anything but DPS. This includes healers, since nobody but the Defender tank should be taking any real damage during this part of the fight. To win, we need to kill the Shade of Akama in about 60 seconds, before he kills Akama.
